Christians celebrate the Trinity
Christian’s believe that there are three persons in the Godhead; the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory.
The Triangle and the Eye
The image of the "eye of God" appears already in the Middle Ages. It symbolizes the so-called Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Triangle
The equilateral triangle is a symbol of the Holy Trinity. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost are no longer represented in human form, or as a dove, but by this geometrical figure. This ‘God-Logo’ can be used in many places: on altars, on church ceilings, above the entrance or on tombstones. It is often surrounded by a halo of rays of light of godly magnificence. It announces: God is here. Where the triangle is painted, it is usually in gold, sometimes in blue. Both colours embody Heaven.
Within the triangle, the Eye of God can usually be seen. He looks graciously down at the people and makes His face to shine upon us, as it says in the Aaronic blessing. The idea that nothing is hidden from the Eye of God leads to that of insight into human sinfulness and thereby to confession – which played an important role in those days.
If the Hebrew name for God ‘Jahwe’ is also in the triangle, it is a reminder that God revealed Himself to Moses in the burning bush. That spot in the desert became a holy place, just as the church is a holy place. When translated, the word for God also means ‘I am with you’ – just as Jesus promised at His Ascension to Heaven.
Tongues of fire within the triangle may express God’s holiness: ‘dwelling in light unapproachable’ . His Majesty is like a burning fire, like the sun. Three tongues of fire refer to Whitsun, when the Holy Spirit came down like tongues of fire upon the disciples. In St John’s Gospel , Jesus says: God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. The place and the building are irrelevant.
The triangle and light symbolism also feature in freemasonry, and Margrave Friedrich founded the freemasons’ lodge in Bayreuth. However, the triangle as a sign of God is older and much more widespread, and the same is true within the realm of the catholic church too.

1+1+1=1. Bad mathematics…Good theology, which explains a word that is actually never used in Scripture, yet it’s concept is clearly present. The Trinity….from the Latin, “threefold”.
This is one doctrine that is essential to grasp, for look across history to see that entire cults have begun and leaders, taking wild turns in their thinking when there is a misunderstanding of WHO God is. 1+1+1=1. We can look as far back as the first century when the apostles were still on earth- Gnostics rose up defining Jesus as never really human, more a spirit just “appearing to have a body”-kind of an illusion. To choose to see one part of the Trinity in this way changes the whole perception about nature of God, ultimately distorting the message of salvation. Gnosticism categorized flesh as evil- “We’re all stuck in our human skin-but we can have salvation in this other-separate “spiritual” area of our beings, if we grasp this ‘special knowledge'”. Complicated? YES!,-but Gnosticism has been the root of many cults and spiritual movements that claim that “a private, special knowledge is needed” for salvation. There are those who would say that Jesus was not divine, that one particular member of the Trinity is to be worshiped above the others, or that God merely moves in and out of these three identities like roles. All are distorted. All lead to conclusions that take us away from the truth of the Trinity.
1) There is only One God (monotheism), but 2) there is a plurality of persons within God. It is not imaginary, or pretend or just present at certain times in history. 3) God is the Father. 4) God is the Son and 5) The Holy Spirit is also fully God. The sum is three and yet it is one. It is shown, verse after verse in Scripture- without an explanation.

The Trinity (Latin: Trinitas, lit. 'triad', from trinus'threefold')[1] is the Christian doctrine concerning the nature of God, which defines one God existing in three, coeternal, consubstantial divine persons:[2][3] God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit, three distinct persons (hypostases) sharing one essence/substance/nature (homoousion).[4]
As the Fourth Lateran Council declared, it is the Father who begets, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds.[5][6][7] In this context, one essence/nature defines what God is, while the three persons define who God is.[8][9]This expresses at once their distinction and their indissoluble unity. Thus, the entire process of creation and grace is viewed as a single shared action of the three divine persons, in which each person manifests the attributes unique to them in the Trinity, thereby proving that everything comes "from the Father", "through the Son", and "in the Holy Spirit".[10]
This doctrine is called Trinitarianism, and its adherents are called Trinitarians, while its opponents are called antitrinitarians or nontrinitarians and are considered non-Christian by most mainline groups. Nontrinitarian positions include Unitarianism, binitarianism and modalism. The theological study of the Trinity is called "triadology" or "Trinitarian theology".[11][12]
While the developed doctrine of the Trinity is not explicit in the books that constitute the New Testament, the New Testament possesses a triadic understanding of God[13] and contains a number of Trinitarian formulas.[14][15] The doctrine of the Trinity was first formulated among the early Christians (mid-2nd century and later) and fathers of the Church as they attempted to understand the relationship between Jesus and God in their scriptural documents and prior traditions.[16]
One God in three persons
In Trinitarian doctrine, God exists as three persons but is one being, having a single divine nature.[144]The members of the Trinity are co-equal and co-eternal, one in essence, nature, power, action, and will. As stated in the Athanasian Creed, the Father is uncreated, the Son is uncreated, and the Holy Spirit is uncreated, and all three are eternal without beginning.[145] "The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit" are not names for different parts of God, but one name for God[146] because three persons exist in God as one entity.[147] They cannot be separate from one another. Each person is understood as having the identical essence or nature, not merely similar natures.[148]
According to the Eleventh Council of Toledo (675) "For, when we say: He who is the Father is not the Son, we refer to the distinction of persons; but when we say: the Father is that which the Son is, the Son that which the Father is, and the Holy Spirit that which the Father is and the Son is, this clearly refers to the nature or substance".[149]
Relationship between the persons
Although all Trinitarians agree that there exists one God in three persons, Trinitarian theologians have differed on how to explain the relationships of the persons of the Trinity, among them are the eternal generation of the Son,[157] the functional subordination of the Son,[158] the eternal procession of the Spirit,[159][160] the Filioque[161]and the subordinationism.[162][163]
The doctrine of eternal generation is defined as a necessary and eternal act of God the Father, in which he generates (or begets) God the Son by communicating the whole divine essence to the Son. Generation is not defined as an act of the will, but is by necessity of nature.[164][165] This doctrine has been affirmed by the Athanasian creed,[166] the Nicene creed[167] and by church fathers such as Athanasius of Alexandria, Augustine, and Basil of Caesarea[168][169][170][171]being mentioned explicitly first by Origen of Alexandria.[172] Those who teach the traditional doctrine of eternal generation have often used biblical texts such as Proverbs 8:23,[173] Psalm 2:7, Micah 5:2, John 5:26, John 1:18, 3:16, Colossians 1:15, 2 Corinthians 4:4 and Hebrews 1:3 to establish their understanding of eternal generation.[174][175] However, some modern theologians reject the doctrines of eternal generation and procession, disputing the idea that these texts teach the doctrine of eternal generation. To reject eternal generation, William Lane Craig has argued, is to introduce subordinationism into the Trinity.[176][157]
Among modern Trinitarian debates, the issue of social Trinitarianism is often discussed.[177]Although it is a diverse theological movement, many of its advocates argue that each person of the Trinity has their own center of consciousness and own will united in a loving relationship.[178]Critics argue it risks veering into tritheism (belief in three gods) by overemphasizing the distinctness of the persons, while proponents say it better reflects the biblical portrayal of the Trinity as relational and active in history. Social Trinitarianism is in contrast to what is often called "classical Trinitarianism" due to its association with many classical theologians such as Augustine, which instead distinguishes the persons by their eternal relations of begetting and procession.[179][180]

The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit, otherwise known as the Holy Ghost, is a concept within the Abrahamic religions. In Judaism, the Holy Spirit is understood as the divine quality or force of God manifesting in the world, particularly in acts of prophecy, creation and guidance. In Nicene Christianity, this conception expanded in meaning to represent the third person of the Trinity, co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father and God the Son. In Islam, the Holy Spirit acts as an agent of divine action or communication. In the Baha’i Faith, the Holy Spirit is seen as the intermediary between God and man and "the outpouring grace of God and the effulgent rays that emanate from His Manifestation".[1]
The Hebrew Bible contains the term "spirit of God" (ruach elochim) which by Jews is interpreted in the sense of the might of a unitary God.[citation needed] This interpretation is different from the Nicene Christian conception of the Holy Spirit as one person of the Trinity.[2]
The Christian concept tends to emphasize the moral aspect of the Holy Spirit as a common expression in the Christian New Testament.[3]Based on the Old Testament, the book of Acts emphasizes the power of ministry aspect of the Holy Spirit.[4]
In general, Jews reject any conception of a co-equal, multi-person godhead; anything but an absolute monotheism is contrary to the Shema. They do not consider the Hebrew word for "one" (Hebrew: אחד, ekhad) as meaning anything other than a simple numerical one.[5][6] The rabbinical understanding of the Holy Spirit has a certain degree of personification, but it remains, "a quality belonging to God, one of his attributes".[7]The idea of God as a duality or trinity is considered shituf (or "not purely monotheistic").
According to theologian Rudolf Bultmann, there are two ways to think about the Holy Spirit: "animistic" and "dynamistic". In animistic thinking, he is "an independent agent, a personal power which (...) can fall upon a man and take possession of him, enabling him or compelling him to perform manifestations of power" while in dynamistic thought it "appears as an impersonal force which fills a man like a fluid".[8] Both kinds of thought appear in Jewish and Christian scripture, but animistic is more typical of the Old Testament whereas dynamistic is more common in the New Testament.[9] The distinction coincides with the Holy Spirit as either a temporary or permanent gift. In the Old Testament and Jewish thought, it is primarily temporary with a specific situation or task in mind, whereas in the Christian concept the gift resides in persons permanently.[10]
On the surface, the Holy Spirit appears to have an equivalent in non-Abrahamic Hellenistic mystery religions. These religions included a distinction between the spirit and psyche, which is also seen in the Pauline epistles. According to proponents[who?] of the History of religions school, the Christian concept of the Holy Spirit cannot be explained from Jewish ideas alone without reference to the Hellenistic religions.[11]But according to theologian Erik Konsmo, the views "are so dissimilar that the only legitimate connection one can make is with the Greek term πνεῦμα [pneuma, Spirit] itself".[12]
Another link with ancient Greek thought is the Stoic idea of the spirit as anima mundi – or world soul – that unites all people.[12] Some[by whom?]believe that this can be seen in Paul's formulation of the concept of the Holy Spirit that unites Christians in Jesus Christ and love for one another, but Konsmo again thinks that this position is difficult to maintain.[13] In his Introduction to the 1964 book Meditations, the Anglican priest Maxwell Staniforth wrote:
Another Stoic concept which offered inspiration to the Church was that of "divine Spirit". Cleanthes, wishing to give more explicit meaning to Zeno's "creative fire", had been the first to hit upon the term pneuma, or "spirit", to describe it. Like fire, this intelligent "spirit" was imagined as a tenuous substance akin to a current of air or breath, but essentially possessing the quality of warmth; it was immanent in the universe as God, and in man as the soul and life-giving principle. Clearly it is not a long step from this to the "Holy Spirit" of Christian theology, the "Lord and Giver of life", visibly manifested as tongues of fire at Pentecost and ever since associated – in the Christian as in the Stoic mind – with the ideas of vital fire and beneficent warmth.[14]
For the majority of Christian denominations, the Holy Spirit, or Holy Ghost, is believed to be the third divine Person of the Trinity,[1] a triune god manifested as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, each being God.[2][3][4]Nontrinitarian Christians, who reject the doctrine of the Trinity, differ significantly from mainstream Christianity in their beliefs about the Holy Spirit. In Christian theology, pneumatology is the study of the Holy Spirit. Due to Christianity's historical relationship with Judaism, theologians often identify the Holy Spirit with the concept of the Ruach Hakodesh in Jewish scripture, on the theory that Jesus was expanding upon these Jewish concepts. Similar names, and ideas, include the Ruach Elohim (Spirit of God), Ruach YHWH (Spirit of Yahweh), and the Ruach Hakodesh (Holy Spirit).[5][6] In the New Testamentthe Holy Spirit is identified with the Spirit of Christ, the Spirit of Truth, and the Paraclete(helper).[7][8][9]
The New Testament details a close relationship between the Holy Spirit and Jesus during his earthly life and ministry.[10] The Gospels of Matthew and Luke and the Nicene Creed state that Jesus was "conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary".[11] The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus like a dove during his baptism, and in his Farewell Discourse after the Last Supper, Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to his disciplesafter his departure.[12][13]
The Holy Spirit is frequently referred to by metaphor and symbol, both doctrinally and biblically. Theologically speaking these symbols are a key to understanding of the Holy Spirit and his actions, and are not mere artistic representations.[85][135]
Water – signifies the Holy Spirit's action in Baptism, such that in the manner that "by one Spirit [believers] were all baptized", so they are "made to drink of one Spirit".[136] Thus the Spirit is also personally the living water welling up from Christ crucified[137] as its source and welling up in Christians to eternal life.[135][138] The Catechism of the Catholic Church, item 1137, considers the Water of Life reference in the Book of Revelation[139] "one of most beautiful symbols of the Holy Spirit".[140]
Anointing – The symbolism of blessing with oil also signifies the Holy Spirit, to the point of becoming a synonym for the Holy Spirit. The coming of the Spirit is referred to as his "anointing".[141] In some denominations anointing is practiced in Confirmation; ("chrismation" in the Eastern Churches). Its full force can be grasped only in relation to the primary anointing accomplished by the Holy Spirit, that of Jesus. The title "Christ" (in Hebrew, messiah) means the one "anointed" by God's Spirit.[135][138]
Fire – symbolizes the transforming energy of the Holy Spirit's actions. In the form of tongues "as of fire", the Holy Spirit rested on the disciples on the morning of Pentecost.[135][138]
Cloud and light – The Spirit comes upon the Virgin Mary and "overshadows" her, so that she might conceive and give birth to Jesus. On the mountain of transfiguration, the Spirit in the "cloud came and overshadowed" Jesus, Moses and Elijah, Peter, James and John, and "a voice came out of the cloud, saying, 'This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!'"[138][142]
The dove – When Christ comes up from the water of his baptism, the Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, comes down upon him and remains with him.[135][138][143]
Wind – The Spirit is likened to the "wind that blows where it will,"[144] and described as "a sound from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind."[145][135]
Trinity Sunday
Trinitatis means Trinity. This is how Christians call the Sunday of the Trinity. On this day they celebrate the Trinity. This means that their God shows himself to men in three ways: as the Father who created the world, as the Son, that is, as Jesus Christ, who came to earth as a man, and as the Holy Spirit, who makes people feel the closeness of God.
Trinitatis was first celebrated in some Christian Monasteries about 1000 years ago. Since the year 1334 after the birth of Christ, it has been part of the Christian festival calendar. In the service on this day, almost everything revolves around the Trinity of God. Afterwards, however, the festival is no longer celebrated in the community or the family.
Trinity Sunday is the first Sunday after Pentecostin the Western Christian liturgical calendar, and the Sunday of Pentecost in Eastern Christianity.[1]Trinity Sunday celebrates the Christian doctrine of the Trinity, the three Persons of God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.[2]

Trinity Sunday is the Sunday following Pentecost, and eight weeks after Easter Sunday. The earliest possible date is 17 May (as in 1818 and 2285). The latest possible date is 20 June (as in 1943 and 2038).

Symbol of the Divine Indwelling
Our dear Mother showed herself to me in a special way around 11:30 on the morning of November 22 [1957]. ... This vision of herself is very important, as it reveals Our Lady as she really and truly was, the Immaculate Tabernacle of the Indwelling God.
Our Lady was standing on a globe, her right foot resting on a crescent or quarter moon, the left on the snout of a rather small and very ugly looking dragon. I saw fire come out of his huge jaws, but not very much, as he could not open them wide enough because of Our Lady’s foot. .... Our Lady was all in white. ...The veil was held about her head by a wreath of white roses...
The previous day Our Lady had appeared with her hands outstretched. At this second visit she slowly raised them, then crossed them on her breast rather close to her waist. While doing so, she bent her head slightly forward, and it seemed that her eyes were closed, not just lowered. On her breast, as though through a veil, the Triangle and the Eye, which is often depicted as the symbol of the Divine Indwelling, could be seen. ... It seemed that a strong beam of light streamed from the Divine Presence within Our Lady onto the globe at her feet.

Though it did not appear that her lips moved, yet I heard these words quite plainly: “I am Our Lady of the Divine Indwelling, handmaid of Him Who dwells within.”

Before Sister Mildred Neuzil died in 2000, a gentleman, meaning well, visited her at the Our Lady of Nativity Cloister in New Riegel, Ohio, and suggested that she change the Triangle and the Eye on the image of Our Lady of the Divine Indwelling. He claimed many confuse it with the triangle of the Free Masons. Sister answered him, absolutely not! This is how Our Lady appeared and this is how the image will stay. It is an ancient Christian symbol for the Trinity and needs to be appreciated for the sacred symbol it is.
The “All-Seeing Eye” or “Eye of Providence” or “Eye of God” within the triangle and surrounded by light is a Christian symbol representing the Trinity and the providence, the omniscience, the omnipresence of God compassionately watching over His creation. Its usage dates back to at least the 16th century.
To the top is an image of the All-Seeing Eye on a painting of Jesus having supper with his disciples at Emmaus. It is believed the All-Seeing Eye was added later. A possible first known use of the All-Seeing Eye symbol in Judeo-Christianity is the Talipot Tomb from the 1st century AD, discovered in 1980. The Eye is over the entrance to the tomb. A book, THE JESUS FAMILY TOMB, claims it is the tomb where Jesus and some of His relatives were buried. Controversial indeed!

The symbol of the All-Seeing Eye of God, one human eye in a triangle, was used by various ancient religions. The Eye or enlarged eyes in an image conveyed holiness. Early Christian art was not concerned with representing God, but was more engaged in images of Jesus, Mary and the saints.
Our first images of God the Creator appear in the Middle Ages, as simply as the hand of God extending from a cloud. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Christian art began to use the eye as the symbol of God on churches, doors, altars and ceilings. The eye within the triangle to symbolize the Blessed Trinity is a reminder of the abiding Presence of God in a secular world that is so oblivious of His Divine Presence.
The triangle itself is the simplest ancient symbol for the Trinity with its three equal sides representing the three co-equal persons in the one God. The rays surrounding the image signify the unrestricted essence of God’s infinitude.

Sometimes in old churches you will see an eye in the sanctuary. This is to represent God who is everywhere and sees everything. What a reminder that whatever we do, good or evil, God is watching. If we are aware that God sees even our most private moments, we are less likely to do things that would offend Him.
To the top is an image of the Eye in a circle, also symbolic of the Trinity that is without beginning and without end. At the top of the circle is the Eye for the Father; in the middle are the Greek initials IHS for Christ; and at the bottom is the dove for the Holy Spirit. This image is found on the ceiling of the old St. Hedwig Church in Lakewood, Ohio, which is now the Sanctuary Museum where Lou McClung restores and exhibits sacred statues, often taken from closed churches, along not concerned with representing God, but was more engaged in images of Jesus, Mary and the saints.

To the top is a fascinating image of the All-Seeing Eye in a circular fashion as well. The All-Seeing Eye at the top of the image again symbolizes the Father. The dove, for the Holy Spirit, rests on the peak of the triangle. On one side is the thorn- crowned Heart of Jesus, and opposite, the Heart of Mary, pierced by a sword. At the bottom of the circle is the chalice and host for our Eucharistic Lord, adored by the angels. Midway in the picture is a male saint, (unknown) and St. Margaret Mary, apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus whom we honor this month of June. At the bottom is depicted Mary’s Visitation to Elizabeth, while St. Joseph and Zacharias look on.
We know how satan mocks God and desecrates sacred things. Black masses are an example. Some people boldly, perhaps filled with the Holy Spirit, call abortion human sacrifice to satan, which mocks the true sacrifice of the Sacred Humanity of Jesus, the innocent Lamb of God, for the redemption of mankind.
This Christian symbol of the Eye in the Triangle is sometimes denigrated by anti-Christian groups as signifying Lucifer or the surveillance state, Big Brother, or the so-called Beast System of global control of the masses. It was in the 1700’s that the Free Masons began using the pyramid and the eye which appears on the back of our $1.00 bill. Interestingly, some of our founding fathers were Masons, including George Washington, Ben Franklin, Paul Revere, John Hancock and Chief Justice John Marshall. Records indicate that about nine of the fifty-six men that signed the Declaration of Independence were Masons, and about thirteen of the thirty-nine that signed the US Constitution were also Masons, seeking a better world but not necessarily denying the sovereignty of God over our Nation and the world. At first it was something of a social phenomenon to belong.

To the top is a picture of George Washington wearing the apron of the Masons on which is their most recognized symbol of the square and the compass that some confuse with the Christian symbol of the Triangle and the Eye. Total Information Awareness (TIA) was a mass detection program[clarification needed] by the United States Information Awareness Office. It operated under this title from February to May 2003 before being renamed Terrorism Information Awareness.[1][2]
Based on the concept of predictive policing, TIA was meant to correlate detailed information about people in order to anticipate and prevent terrorist incidents before execution.[3] The program modeled specific information sets in the hunt for terrorists around the globe.[4] Admiral John Poindexter called it a "Manhattan Project for counter-terrorism".[5] According to Senator Ron Wyden, TIA was the "biggest surveillance program in the history of the United States".[6]

A hexagram (Greek) or sexagram (Latin) is a six-pointed geometric star figure with the Schläfli symbol {6/2}, 2{3}, or {{3}}. The term is used to refer to a compound figure of two equilateral triangles. The intersection is a regular hexagon.
The hexagram is part of an infinite series of shapes which are compounds of two n-dimensional simplices. In three dimensions, the analogous compound is the stellated octahedron, and in four dimensions the compound of two 5-cells is obtained.
It has been historically used in various religious and cultural contexts and as decorative motifs. The symbol was used as a decorative motif in medieval Christian churches and Jewish synagogues.[1] In the medieval period, a Muslim mystical symbol known as the Seal of Solomon was depicted as either a hexagram or pentagram.[2][3]

Origins and shape
As a derivative of two overlapping triangles, the hexagram may have developed from different peoples with no direct correlation to one another.
The mandala symbol called yantra, found on ancient South Indian Hindu temples, is a geometric toolset that incorporates hexagrams into its framework. It symbolizes the nara-narayana, or perfect meditative state of balance achieved between Man and God, and if maintained, results in "moksha," or "nirvana" (release from the bounds of the earthly world and its material trappings).
Some researchers have theorized that the hexagram represents the astrological chart at the time of David's birth or anointment as king. The hexagram is also known as the "King's Star" in astrological circles.
In antique papyri, pentagrams, together with stars and other signs, are frequently found on amuletsbearing the Jewish names of God, and used to guard against fever and other diseases. Curiously the hexagram is not found among these signs. In the Greek Magical Papyri[citation needed] (Wessely, l.c. pp. 31, 112) at Paris and London there are 22 signs side by side, and a circle with twelve signs, but neither a pentagram nor a hexagram.

Six-pointed stars have also been found in cosmological diagrams in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The reasons behind this symbol's common appearance in Indic religions and the West are unknown. One possibility is that they have a common origin. The other possibility is that artists and religious people from several cultures independently created the hexagram shape, which is a relatively simple geometric design.
Within Indic lore, the shape is generally understood to consist of two triangles—one pointed up and the other down—locked in harmonious embrace. The two components are called "Om" and the "Hrim" in Sanskrit, and symbolize man's position between earth and sky. The downward triangle symbolizes Shakti, the sacred embodiment of femininity, and the upward triangle symbolizes Shiva, or Agni Tattva, representing the focused aspects of masculinity. The mystical union of the two triangles represents Creation, occurring through the divine union of male and female. The two locked triangles are also known as 'Shanmukha'—the six-faced, representing the six faces of Shiva & Shakti's progeny Kartikeya. This symbol is also a part of several yantras and has deep significance in Hindu ritual worship and history.
In Buddhism, some old versions of the Bardo Thodol, also known as The "Tibetan Book of the Dead", contain a hexagram with a swastika inside. It was made up by the publishers for this particular publication. In Tibetan, it is called the "origin of phenomenon" (chos-kyi 'byung-gnas). It is especially connected with Vajrayogini, and forms the center part of her mandala. In reality, it is in three dimensions, not two, although it may be portrayed either way.
The Shatkona is a symbol used in Hindu yantrathat represents the union of both the masculineand feminine form. More specifically it is supposed to represent Purusha (the supreme being), and Prakriti (mother nature, or causal matter). Often this is represented as Shiva – Shakti.[4]
Anahata or heart chakra is the fourth primary chakra, according to Hindu Yogic, Shakta and Buddhist Tantric traditions. In Sanskrit, anahatameans "unhurt, unstruck, and unbeaten". Anahata Nad refers to the Vedic concept of unstruck sound (the sound of the celestial realm). Anahata is associated with balance, calmness, and serenity.

The Star of David (Hebrew: מָגֵן דָּוִד, romanized: Magen David, lit. 'Shield of David')[a] is a symbol generally recognized as representing both Jewish identity and Judaism.[1] Its shape is that of a hexagram: the compound of two equilateral triangles.
A derivation of the Seal of Solomon was used for decorative and mystical purposes by Muslims and Kabbalistic Jews. The hexagram appears occasionally in Jewish contexts since antiquity as a decorative motif, such as a stone bearing a hexagram from the arch of the 3rd–4th century Khirbet Shura synagogue. A hexagram found in a religious context can be seen in a manuscript of the Hebrew Bible from 11th-century Cairo.
Its association as a distinctive symbol for the Jewish people and their religion dates to 17th-century Prague. In the 19th century, the symbol began to be widely used by the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe, ultimately coming to represent Jewish identity or religious beliefs.[2][3] It became representative of Zionism after it was chosen as the central symbol for a Jewish national flag at the First Zionist Congress in 1897.[4]
By the end of World War I, it was an internationally accepted symbol for the Jewish people, used on the gravestones of fallen Jewish soldiers.[5]

Roots
Unlike the menorah,[2] the Lion of Judah, the shofar and the lulav, the hexagram was not originally a uniquely Jewish symbol.[6] The hexagram, being an inherently simple geometric construction, has been used in various motifs throughout human history, which were not exclusively religious. It appeared as a decorative motif in both 4th-century synagogues and Christian churches in the Galilee region.[7][8]
Gershom Scholem writes that the term "seal of Solomon" was adopted by Jews from Islamic magic literature, while he could not assert with certainty whether the term "shield of David" originated in Islamic or Jewish mysticism.[2]Leonora Leet argues though that not just the terminology, but the esoteric philosophy behind it had pre-Islamic Jewish roots.[9] She also shows that Jewish alchemists were the teachers of their Muslim and Christian counterparts, and that a way-opener such as Maria Hebraea of Alexandria(2nd or 3rd century CE; others date her earlier) already used concepts which were later adopted by Muslim and Christian alchemists and could be graphically associated with the symbolism of the upper and lower triangles constituting the hexagram, which came into explicit use after her time.[9] The hexagram however only becomes widespread in Jewish magical texts and amulets (segulot) in the early Middle Ages, which is why most modern authors have seen Islamic mysticism as the source of the medieval Spanish Kabbalists' use of the hexagram.[9][10] The name "Star of David" originates from King David of ancient Israel.
Use as Jewish emblem
Only around one millennium later, however, did the star begin to be used as a symbol to identify Jewish communities, a tradition that seems to have started in Prague before the 17th century, and from there spread to much of Eastern Europe.[2][11]
In the 19th century, it came to be adopted by European Jews as a symbol to represent Jewish religion or identity in the same manner the Christian cross identified that religion's believers.[2][12] The symbol became representative of the worldwide Zionist community after it was chosen as the central symbol on a flag at the First Zionist Congress in 1897, due to its usage in some Jewish communities and its lack of specifically religious connotations.[3][13] It was not considered an exclusively Jewish symbol until after it began to be used on the gravestones of fallen Jewish soldiers in World War I.[5]
Early use as an ornament
The hexagram does appear occasionally in Jewish contexts since antiquity, apparently as a decorative motif. For example, in Israel, there is a stone bearing a hexagram from the arch of the 3rd–4th century Khirbet Shura synagogue in the Galilee.[14][15] It also appears on a temple on Bar Kokhba Revolt coinage which dates from 135 CE.[16] Originally, the hexagram may have been employed as an architectural ornament on synagogues, as it is, for example, on the cathedrals of Brandenburg and Stendal, and on the Marktkirche at Hanover. A hexagram in this form is found on the ancient synagogue at Capernaum.[14]
The use of the hexagram in a Jewish context as a possibly meaningful symbol may occur as early as the 11th century, in the decoration of the carpet page of the famous Tanakh manuscript, the Leningrad Codex dated 1008. Similarly, the symbol illuminates a medieval Tanakh manuscript dated 1307 belonging to Rabbi Yosef bar Yehuda ben Marvas from Toledo, Spain.[14]
Kabbalistic use
A hexagram has been noted on a Jewish tombstone in Taranto, Apulia in Southern Italy, which may date as early as the third century CE.[17][18] The Jews of Apulia were noted for their scholarship in Kabbalah, which has been connected to the use of the Star of David.[19]
Medieval Kabbalistic grimoires show hexagrams among the tables of segulot, but without identifying them as "Shield of David".
In the Renaissance, in the 16th-century Land of Israel, the book Ets Khayim conveys the Kabbalah of Ha-Ari (Rabbi Isaac Luria) who arranges the traditional items on the seder plate for Passoverinto two triangles, where they explicitly correspond to Jewish mystical concepts. The six sfirot of the masculine Zer Anpin correspond to the six items on the seder plate, while the seventh sfira being the feminine Malkhut corresponds to the plate itself.[20][21][22]
However, these seder-plate triangles are parallel, one above the other, and do not actually form a hexagram.[23]

Isaac Luria provided the hexagram with a further mystical meaning. In his book Etz Chayim he teaches that the elements of the plate for the Seder evening have to be placed in the order of the hexagram: above the three sefirot "Crown", "Wisdom", and "Insight", below the other seven.[24][page needed]
Similarly, M. Costa[full citation needed] wrote that M. Gudemann and other researchers in the 1920s claimed that Isaac Luria was influential in turning the Star of David into a national Jewish emblem by teaching that the elements of the plate for the Seder evening have to be placed in the order of the hexagram. Gershom Scholem (1990) disagrees with this view, arguing that Isaac Luria talked about parallel triangles one beneath the other and not about the hexagram.[25]
The Star of David at least since the 20th century remains associated with the number seven and thus with the Menorah, and popular accounts[unreliable source?] associate it with the six directions of space plus the center (under the influence of the description of space found in the Sefer Yetsira: Up, Down, East, West, South, North, and Center), or the Six Sefirot of the Male (Zeir Anpin) united with the Seventh Sefirot of the Female (Nukva).[26] Some say that one triangle represents the ruling tribe of Judah and the other the former ruling tribe of Benjamin. It is also seen as a dalet and yud, the two letters assigned to Judah. There are 12 Vav, or "men", representing the 12 tribes or patriarchs of Israel.
Official usage in Central European communities
In 1354, King of Bohemia Charles IV approved for the Jews of Prague a red flag with a hexagram.[27]In 1460, the Jews of Ofen (Buda, now part of Budapest, Hungary) received King Matthias Corvinus with a red flag on which were two Shields of David and two stars.[28] In the first Hebrew prayer book, printed in Prague in 1512, a large hexagram appears on the cover. In the colophon is written: "Each man beneath his flag according to the house of their fathers...and he will merit to bestow a bountiful gift on anyone who grasps the Shield of David." In 1592, Mordechai Maizel was allowed to affix "a flag of King David, similar to that located on the Main Synagogue" on his synagogue in Prague. Following the Battle of Prague (1648), the Jews of Prague were again granted a flag, in recognition of their contribution to the city's defense. That flag showed a yellow hexagram on a red background, with a "Swedish star" placed in the center of the hexagram.[27]
In the 1650s, the Jews of Vienna adopted a seal with the hexagram on it, likely choosing the motif used on the seal for the Jews of Prague.[16] When a boundary was fixed between Vienna and the Jewish ghetto, a marker was fashioned which separated the two communities. The Christians were identified by the cross and the Jews by the hexagram. When the Jews of Vienna were expelled in 1669, many refugees fled to other cities which in turn used the symbol for their community seal.[16]
As a symbol of Judaism and the Jewish community
The symbol became representative of the worldwide Zionist community, and later the broader Jewish community, after it was chosen to represent the First Zionist Congress in 1897.[3][13]
A year before the congress, Herzl had written in his 1896 Der Judenstaat:
We have no flag, and we need one. If we desire to lead many men, we must raise a symbol above their heads. I would suggest a white flag, with seven golden stars. The white field symbolizes our pure new life; the stars are the seven golden hours of our working-day. For we shall march into the Promised Land carrying the badge of honor.[29]
David Wolffsohn (1856–1914), a businessman prominent in the early Zionist movement, was aware that the nascent Zionist movement had no official flag, and that the design proposed by Theodor Herzl was gaining no significant support, wrote:
At the behest of our leader Herzl, I came to Basle to make preparations for the Zionist Congress. Among many other problems that occupied me then was one that contained something of the essence of the Jewish problem. What flag would we hang in the Congress Hall? Then an idea struck me. We have a flag—and it is blue and white. The talith (prayer shawl) with which we wrap ourselves when we pray: that is our symbol. Let us take this Talith from its bag and unroll it before the eyes of Israel and the eyes of all nations. So I ordered a blue and white flag with the Shield of David painted upon it. That is how the national flag, that flew over Congress Hall, came into being.
In the early 20th century, the symbol began to be used to express Jewish affiliations in sports. Hakoah Vienna was a Jewish sports club founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1909 whose teams competed with the Star of David on the chest of their uniforms, and won the 1925 Austrian Leaguesoccer championship.[30] Similarly, The Philadelphia Sphas basketball team in Philadelphia (whose name was an acronym of its founding South Philadelphia Hebrew Association) wore a large Star of David on their jerseys to proudly proclaim their Jewish identity, as they competed in the first half of the 20th century.[31][32][33][34]
In boxing, Benny "the Ghetto Wizard" Leonard[35](who said he felt as though he was fighting for all Jews) fought with a Star of David embroidered on his trunks in the 1910s.[citation needed] World heavyweight boxing champion Max Baer fought with a Star of David on his trunks as well, notably, for the first time as he knocked out Nazi Germanyhero Max Schmeling in 1933;[36] Hitler never permitted Schmeling to fight a Jew again.
The Holocaust
Main article: Yellow badge
A Star of David, often yellow, was used by the Nazis during the Holocaust to identify Jews. After the German invasion of Poland in 1939, there initially were different local decrees forcing Jews to wear distinct signs (e.g. in the General Government, a white armband with a blue Star of David; in the Warthegau, a yellow badge, in the form of a Star of David, on the left breast and on the back). If a Jew was found in public without the star, he could be severely punished. The requirement to wear the Star of David with the word Jude (German for Jew) was then extended to all Jews over the age of six in the Reich and in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (by a decree issued on September 1, 1941, and signed by Reinhard Heydrich)[37] and was gradually introduced in other Nazi-occupied areas. Others, however, wore the Star of David as a symbol of defiance against Nazi antisemitism, as in the case of United States Army private Hal Baumgarten, who wore a Star of David emblazoned on his back during the 1944 invasion of Normandy.[38]

The technocracy movement was a social movement active in the United States and Canada in the 1930s which favored technocracy as a system of government over representative democracy and concomitant partisan politics. Historians associate the movement with engineer Howard Scott's Technical Alliance and Technocracy Incorporated prior to the internal factionalism that dissolved the latter organization during the Second World War. Technocracy was ultimately overshadowed by other proposals for dealing with the crisis of the Great Depression.[1]The technocracy movement proposed replacing partisan politicians and business people with scientists and engineers who had the technical expertise to manage the economy. The movement did not fully aspire to scientocracy.[2]
The technocracy movement survived into the 21st century and, as of 2013, was continuing to publish a newsletter, maintain a website, and hold member meetings.[5] The Technocracy, Inc. web site later had a post on it stating that the site was under renovation, under new ownership, announcing a "Transition Plan 2016", and an online meeting in April 2021.[6] Smaller groups included the Technical Alliance, the New Machine, and the Utopian Society of America.
In a publication from 1938 Technocracy Inc. the main organization made the following statement in defining their proposal:
Technocracy is the science of social engineering, the scientific operation of the entire social mechanism to produce and distribute goods and services to the entire population of this continent. For the first time in human history it will be done as a scientific, technical, engineering problem. There will be no place for Politics or Politicians, Finance or Financiers, Rackets or Racketeers. Technocracy states that this method of operating the social mechanism of the North American Continent is now mandatory because we have passed from a state of actual scarcity into the present status of potential abundance in which we are now held to an artificial scarcity forced upon us in order to continue a Price System which can distribute goods only by means of a medium of exchange. Technocracy states that price and abundance are incompatible; the greater the abundance the smaller the price. In a real abundance there can be no price at all. Only by abandoning the interfering price control and substituting a scientific method of production and distribution can an abundance be achieved. Technocracy will distribute by means of a certificate of distribution available to every citizen from birth to death. The Technate will encompass the entire American Continent from Panama to the North Polebecause the natural resourcesand the natural boundary of this area make it an independent, self-sustaining geographical unit.[45]
Calendar
The technocratic movement planned to reform the work schedule, to achieve the goal of uninterrupted production, maximizing the efficiency and profitability of resources, transport and entertainment facilities, avoiding the "weekend effect".[46]
According to the movement's calculations, it would be enough that every citizen worked a cycle of four consecutive days, four hours a day, followed by three days off. By "tiling" the days and working hours of seven groups, industry and services could be operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This system would include holiday periods allocated to each citizen.[46]
Continental accounting system
From the previous research of the Technical Alliance's energy survey of North America, Technocracy Inc. leaders stated that a few key points need to be realized in order for a healthy distribution of resources can be efficiently made.
Register on a continuous 24-hour time period basis the total net conversion of energy, which would determine
the availability of energy for continental plant construction and maintenance,
the amount of physical wealth available in the form of consumable goods and services for consumption by the total population during the balanced load period
by means of the registration of energy converted and consumed, make possible a balanced load
provide a continuous 24-hour inventory of all production and consumption
provide a specific registration of the type, kind, size, etc., of all goods and services, where produced, and where used
provide specific registration of the consumption of each individual, plus a record and description of the individual
allow the citizen the widest latitude of choice in consuming one's individual share of continental physical wealth
distribute goods and services to every member of the population[47]
The energy certificate and the energy distribution card
Replacing the price system meant figuring out a new means of measuring distribution that also needed to be based on science. This lead to the technocrats concluding that measurements by units of energy was the most logical thing to do, although Thorstein Veblen's "The Engineers and the Price System" did not talk about price by energy, nor did William Henry Smyth's technocracy social universals.
Technocrats rationalized that the flow of energy can be what determines a price by energy. With the usage of all forms of energy units, especially having emphasis on the erg and joules. They came up with "energy certificates," which would have a table with the information of a citizen's identification, age, sex, occupation/location, energy allotment, purchases made, the issued date and expiration date of the certificates, formatted in a Dewey Decimal System. Each individual would be issued a booklet of the certificates. This was sometimes called an "energy distribution card."[47]
Technocrats held that the differences between energy accounting and monetary systems are:
equal allotments of energy
it was suggested that citizens under the workforce age (25) would still have an allowance of energy totally independent from parents or guardians
retired citizens(45) would still get their allotments
citizens out of work would still receive their allotments[29]
citizens cannot trade or give away certificates. They can only spend energy at verified vendors
once a purchase is made at a vendor, the energy used is made void; the vendor does not gain the used energy. Therefore there is no circulation of energy or hoarding of energy
the certificates have an expiration date. Any energy not used will become void, and on a given date the citizen will receive their new allotment of energy. Once again no citizen can hoard energy
certificates are directly tied to an individual's ID. Therefore it cannot be stolen or used by someone else[47]
Computertization
The term "computer" wasn't used much by Howard Scott, but when it was, he used it with great optimism. Scott said technocracy's C.A.S., energy certificates, and Dewey decimal system were a more paper-based way of tracking computation; the IBM computers were exactly the kind of devices a C.A.S. would want to deploy. Scott insisted that "one of the big troubles with all of this is that your computers is going to do away with your accountants and your engineers, and it is also going to do away with your executives, as well as the blue collar and the white collar, so more power to all of the computer control mechanisms."[48]
A year after Scott's passing, Chile started Project Cybersyn, a computerized system intended to track the economy. Philosophies of computerized government also popped up; see cyberocracy. Engineers are the central profession of technocracy's foundation, so claiming that they too will be replaced by automation is a big deal coming from a technocrat.[citation needed] Over the years, software for computer-aided design and the 2022 revolution of large language modelsbrought hysteria that engineers and software developers would be replaced by artificial intelligence.[citation needed]
Growth curves
Justification for such a radical economy was heavily demonstrated through technocracy's growth curves of economic equilibrium.
Their chart of "Irreversible Physical Trends Shape America's Destiny," was a continuation of the Technical Alliance's energy survey of North America, with the graph being created by the Committee of Technocracy. Upon completion, the energy survey was approximately going to have 3,000 charts finished, with every field of industry being analyzed.[49]
According to Dr. Rautenstrauch the committee found that the formulas technocracy worked out from business enterprise, greatly resembled the biological growth curves charted by Raymond Pearl's "Studies in Human Biology." The committee compared the Pearl-Reed equation to several major growth charts from U.S. industries; fitting similarly.
A foundation of technocracy's arguments was made with said chart. What it shows is that pre-industrial revolution civilization primarily generated its consumer goods from human energy—human labor. And after the industrial revolution happened, a flip in dynamic changed. Resulting in greater energy output with less human toil. Machinery enable for more efficient work without human muscle. To the technocrats, this shift of equilibrium was going to lead to rapid technological unemployment with no plan for the price system to navigate distribution of wealth to the unemployed population.[49][50][51]
The technate
Technocracy looked for large areas with bountiful resources to enable self sufficiency. A "technate" is practically a large body of land governed by a technocracy that only needs minimal trade.[29]
Technocrats had a strong belief in continentalism.[52] Scott mentioned that in the case of forming a North American Technate would be like forming a federation or union under the guidance of technocracy. Areas engaging in continentalism are the U.S.S.R and the European Union.[53][48]
Continental hydrology
A radical plan to transform the technate's mode of transportation was to have total control over all rivers and lakes across the continent. Travel by ship was faster than car or train at the time. The continental hydrology would end up linking several rivers. It also aimed to help monitor erosion of the country, generate power, and be educational for students.
This plan faced criticism for being a project that would destroy several habitats.[54]
Technocracy organization
Technocracy laid out a grand scheme to organize a new government. There are a few distinct layers; the continental director, continental board, special sequences, functional sequences, and area board.
All directors are appointed from top down, with the only exception being the continental director, because no position is above it; the continental director is chosen from area control by the continental board.
The continental directors help oversee the continent. Additionally, the continental director can be thrown out should two-thirds of the continental board say so.
The continental board consists of the area control.
Technocrats wanted to divide the technate into regional divisions for administration, and decided to use the earth's latitude and longitude as a basis for calculating a "quadrangle" setup.
By this system we shall define a regional division to be a quadrangle bounded by two successive degrees of longitude and two successive degrees of latitude. The number assigned to each regional division will be that of the combined longitude and latitude of the point at the southeast corner of the quadrangle. Thus the regional division in which New York City is located is 7340; Cleveland, 8141; St. Louis, 9038; Chicago, 8741; Los Angeles, 11834; Mexico City, 9919; Edmonton, 11353, etc.
Functional sequences are filled based on what the requirements of the regional division needs are, and can be added or removed as such.
It is in this effort that the technocrats aimed to totally organize both the economic system and the government as a blend of each other. This functional government would then work towards making the continental accounting sSystem a reality.[55]
Practicable Soviet of Technicians
Thorstein Veblen outlined what it would take for engineers to manage a country's economy. Praising the idea that technicians in places of trust is an excellent idea. Veblen concluded that engineers in all fields would need to work together in accounting for all aspects of the industrial system.
Veblen loosely proposed a trilateral administration; three large councils of engineers that would lead into a central council.

Veblen also argued that people educated in business would need to be banned from positions of trust. Believing that those who understand traditional economics thought too much like a businessperson and in doing so, bring the inefficient ideals that technocracy is trying to solve.
In point: "By force of habit, men trained to a businesslike view of what is right and real will be irretrievably biased against any plan of production and distribution that is not drawn in terms of commercial profit and loss and does not provide a margin of free income to go to absentee owners. The personal exceptions to the rule are apparently few."[56]
One of the technocrats' magazines featured a humanoid robot, with the cover showing the robot as a destructive force. Inside the magazine it shows the same robot overseer of civilization, and a robot is also representative of a technocrat from a cartoon artwork for a birthday card, although the artist seems to be confused as to what a technocrat is.[62][61]
An apparently anti-technocracy article that seems to claim that technocrats incorrectly call industrial machinery is a "curse." Hence, the robot dinosaur destroying a city.[63]
Influence in literature
Some science fiction has featured the term technocracy or a society governed by technical experts, which has resulted in both modern popularity in favor of a technically run society, and fear of a technically run society.[citation needed]
Isaac Asimov
After Howard Scott's passing, Technocracy Inc. was failing to keep their relevancy. In efforts to gain popular attention the organization tried to interact with any writers expressing techno-utopian ideas with the hope that gaining them as members would also convince their audience to investigate technocracy. These efforts included writing to Isaac Asimov, although there does not appear to be information as to whether or not Asimov responded to Technocracy Inc.'s letters.[64]
For some time[when?] Asimov was a member of the Futurians, a science fiction club based in New York, some of the members of which were reportedly interested in technocracy. This interest would be short-lived, however, as after obtaining a copy of the technocracy study course, they determined that it was no different from "progressive Stalinism". There is no available information confirming if Asimov took part in reading the study course.[64]

MORAL IMPERATIVE
With the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, the world has lost one of its most powerful and compassionate voices for justice, dignity, and the highest aspirations of humanity. His leadership, deeply rooted in his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, illuminated a path toward healing the deep wounds of our global society. He dared to speak uncomfortable truths about inequality and human suffering, and he held leaders in business, government, and civil society to account – urging us all to move beyond rhetoric and virtue-signaling toward meaningful action in pursuit of the common good.
His vision profoundly shaped my own. Inspired by his moral clarity and urgent call for inclusive progress, I founded the Council for Inclusive Capitalism. We hold to the conviction that capitalism itself is neither inherently just nor unjust – but that it must be stewarded by responsible governments, investors, and business leaders to ensure it serves the many, not merely the privileged few. Capitalism, rightly directed, must be a force for good: creating value for customers, dignified work for employees, and prosperity for communities, while also delivering fair returns to shareholders.
When I had the honor of meeting His Holiness in 2019 alongside the founding members of our Steering Committee, he urged us to transform moral urgency into practical business action – actions that would serve all people through “long-term productive, sustainable, and socially responsible development and investment.” His encyclicals, Laudato Si’ and Laudate Deum, further underscored the critical need to design economic models that are both humane and just.
The passing of Pope Francis is a profound loss – not only for the Church, but for the entire world. And yet, his vision must not be consigned to memory. It must endure as a living call to action. The greatest tribute we can offer is to carry forward his legacy: to build an economy where profit and purpose are not at odds, where capitalism uplifts those who serve society, and where business becomes a transformative force in shaping a more just and sustainable world.
It has been deeply meaningful for the Council for Inclusive Capitalism to receive the wisdom and guidance of Pope Francis in defining our responsibilities to society. While we humbly acknowledge that we often fall short of the Christian ideal for business, I can say with sincerity and pride that the Inclusive Capitalism movement is earnestly striving to answer the Holy Father’s call in Laudato Si’ – to “listen to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.”

Joi Ito, the director of MIT’s Media Lab, called his dealings with Epstein an “error in judgment.” The Harvard biologist George Church blamed “nerd tunnel vision.” Meanwhile, more names have been added to the list of scholars who accepted invitations to the late investor’s private island or hung out at his Manhattan mansion.

"So, I had Jim Watson to the house, and I asked Watson, what does he think about this idea," a proposal to study how the cellular mechanisms of plants might be relevant to human cancer. Watson is a Nobel laureate and co-discoverer of the structure of DNA. "Likewise with [Noam] Chomsky on artificial intelligence," he said, referring to one of the pioneers in the field.
In fact, Epstein expressed great respect for the opinions of these elder statesmen. "It's funny to watch Noam Chomsky rip apart these young boys who talk about having a thinking machine," Epstein noted. "He takes out a dagger and slices them, very kindly, into little shreds."
A notorious name dropper, Epstein clearly savored his access to scientific superstars. "As you might know, I was very close to Marvin Minsky for quite a long time [and] I funded some of Marvin's projects," he said about one of the founders of artificial intelligence, a longtime MIT professor who died in 2016. "And Marvin told me there was this young guy in Germany who had a very unique idea about artificial intelligence."

State of Fear – Why Politicized Science is Dangerous

Imagine that there is a new scientific theory that warns of an impending crisis, and points to a way out.
This theory quickly draws support from leading scientists, politicians and celebrities around the world. Research is funded by distinguished philanthropies, and carried out at prestigious universities. The crisis is reported frequently in the media. The science is taught in college and high school classrooms.
I don’t mean global warming. I’m talking about another theory, which rose to prominence a century ago.
Its supporters included Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Winston Churchill. It was approved by Supreme Court justices Oliver Wendell Holmes and Louis Brandeis, who ruled in its favor. The famous names who supported it included Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone; activist Margaret Sanger; botanist Luther Burbank; Leland Stanford, founder of Stanford University; the novelist H. G. Wells; the playwright George Bernard Shaw; and hundreds of others. Nobel Prize winners gave support. Research was backed by the Carnegie and Rockefeller Foundations. The Cold Springs Harbor Institute was built to carry out this research, but important work was also done at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and Johns Hopkins. Legislation to address the crisis was passed in states from New York to California.
These efforts had the support of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Medical Association, and the National Research Council. It was said that if Jesus were alive, he would have supported this effort.
All in all, the research, legislation and molding of public opinion surrounding the theory went on for almost half a century. Those who opposed the theory were shouted down and called reactionary, blind to reality, or just plain ignorant. But in hindsight, what is surprising is that so few people objected.
Today, we know that this famous theory that gained so much support was actually pseudoscience. The crisis it claimed was nonexistent. And the actions taken in the name of theory were morally and criminally wrong. Ultimately, they led to the deaths of millions of people.
The theory was eugenics, and its history is so dreadful — and, to those who were caught up in it, so embarrassing — that it is now rarely discussed. But it is a story that should be well know to every citizen, so that its horrors are not repeated.
The theory of eugenics postulated a crisis of the gene pool leading to the deterioration of the human race. The best human beings were not breeding as rapidly as the inferior ones — the foreigners, immigrants, Jews, degenerates, the unfit, and the “feeble minded.” Francis Galton, a respected British scientist, first speculated about this area, but his ideas were taken far beyond anything he intended. They were adopted by science-minded Americans, as well as those who had no interest in science but who were worried about the immigration of inferior races early in the twentieth century — “dangerous human pests” who represented “the rising tide of imbeciles” and who were polluting the best of the human race.
The eugenicists and the immigrationists joined forces to put a stop to this. The plan was to identify individuals who were feeble-minded — Jews were agreed to be largely feeble-minded, but so were many foreigners, as well as blacks — and stop them from breeding by isolation in institutions or by sterilization.
As Margaret Sanger said, “Fostering the good-for-nothing at the expense of the good is an extreme cruelty … there is not greater curse to posterity than that of bequeathing them an increasing population of imbeciles.” She spoke of the burden of caring for “this dead weight of human waste.”
Such views were widely shared. H.G. Wells spoke against “ill-trained swarms of inferior citizens.” Theodore Roosevelt said that “Society has no business to permit degenerates to reproduce their kind.” Luther Burbank” “Stop permitting criminals and weaklings to reproduce.” George Bernard Shaw said that only eugenics could save mankind.
There was overt racism in this movement, exemplified by texts such as “The Rising Tide of Color Against White World Supremacy” by American author Lothrop Stoddard. But, at the time, racism was considered an unremarkable aspect of the effort to attain a marvelous goal — the improvement of humankind in the future. It was this avant-garde notion that attracted the most liberal and progressive minds of a generation. California was one of twenty-nine American states to pass laws allowing sterilization, but it proved the most-forward-looking and enthusiastic — more sterilizations were carried out in California than anywhere else in America.
Eugenics research was funded by the Carnegie Foundation, and later by the Rockefeller Foundation. The latter was so enthusiastic that even after the center of the eugenics effort moved to Germany, and involved the gassing of individuals from mental institutions, the Rockefeller Foundation continued to finance German researchers at a very high level. (The foundation was quiet about it, but they were still funding research in 1939, only months before the onset of World War II.)
Since the 1920s, American eugenicists had been jealous because the Germans had taken leadership of the movement away from them. The Germans were admirably progressive. They set up ordinary-looking houses where “mental defectives” were brought and interviewed one at a time, before being led into a back room, which was, in fact, a gas chamber. There, they were gassed with carbon monoxide, and their bodies disposed of in a crematorium located on the property.
Eventually, this program was expanded into a vast network of concentration camps located near railroad lines, enabling the efficient transport and of killing ten million undesirables.
After World War II, nobody was a eugenicist, and nobody had ever been a eugenicist. Biographers of the celebrated and the powerful did not dwell on the attractions of this philosophy to their subjects, and sometimes did not mention it at all. Eugenics ceased to be a subject for college classrooms, although some argue that its ideas continue to have currency in disguised form.
But in retrospect, three points stand out. First, despite the construction of Cold Springs Harbor Laboratory, despite the efforts of universities and the pleadings of lawyers, there was no scientific basis for eugenics. In fact, nobody at that time knew what a gene really was. The movement was able to proceed because it employed vague terms never rigorously defined. “Feeble-mindedness” could mean anything from poverty to illiteracy to epilepsy. Similarly, there was no clear definition of “degenerate” or “unfit.”
Second, the eugenics movement was really a social program masquerading as a scientific one. What drove it was concern about immigration and racism and undesirable people moving into one’s neighborhood or country. Once again, vague terminology helped conceal what was really going on.
Third, and most distressing, the scientific establishment in both the United States and Germany did not mount any sustained protest. Quite the contrary. In Germany scientists quickly fell into line with the program. Modern German researchers have gone back to review Nazi documents from the 1930s. They expected to find directives telling scientists what research should be done. But none were necessary. In the words of Ute Deichman, “Scientists, including those who were not members of the [Nazi] party, helped to get funding for their work through their modified behavior and direct cooperation with the state.” Deichman speaks of the “active role of scientists themselves in regard to Nazi race policy … where [research] was aimed at confirming the racial doctrine … no external pressure can be documented.” German scientists adjusted their research interests to the new policies. And those few who did not adjust disappeared.
A second example of politicized science is quite different in character, but it exemplifies the hazard of government ideology controlling the work of science, and of uncritical media promoting false concepts. Trofim Denisovich Lysenko was a self-promoting peasant who, it was said, “solved the problem of fertilizing the fields without fertilizers and minerals.” In 1928 he claimed to have invented a procedure called vernalization, by which seeds were moistened and chilled to enhance the later growth of crops.
Lysenko’s methods never faced a rigorous test, but his claim that his treated seeds passed on their characteristics to the next generation represented a revival of Lamarckian ideas at a time when the rest of the world was embracing Mendelian genetics. Josef Stalin was drawn to Lamarckian ideas, which implied a future unbounded by hereditary constraints; he also wanted improved agricultural production. Lysenko promised both, and became the darling of a Soviet media that was on the lookout for stories about clever peasants who had developed revolutionary procedures.
Lysenko was portrayed as a genius, and he milked his celebrity for all it was worth. He was especially skillful at denouncing this opponents. He used questionnaires from farmers to prove that vernalization increased crop yields, and thus avoided any direct tests. Carried on a wave of state-sponsored enthusiasm, his rise was rapid. By 1937, he was a member of the Supreme Soviet.
By then, Lysenko and his theories dominated Russian biology. The result was famines that killed millions, and purges that sent hundreds of dissenting Soviet scientists to the gulags or the firing squads. Lysenko was aggressive in attacking genetics, which was finally banned as “bourgeois pseudoscience” in 1948. There was never any basis for Lysenko’s ideas, yet he controlled Soviet research for thirty years. Lysenkoism ended in the 1960s, but Russian biology still has not entirely recovered from that era.
Now we are engaged in a great new theory that once again has drawn the support of politicians, scientists, and celebrities around the world. Once again, the theory is promoted by major foundations. Once again, the research is carried out at prestigious universities. Once again, legislation is passed and social programs are urged in its name. Once again, critics are few and harshly dealt with.
Once again, the measures being urged have little basis in fact or science. Once again, groups with other agendas are hiding behind a movement that appears high-minded. Once again, claims of moral superiority are used to justify extreme actions. Once again, the fact that some people are hurt is shrugged off because an abstract cause is said to be greater than any human consequences. Once again, vague terms like sustainability and generational justice — terms that have no agreed definition — are employed in the service of a new crisis.
I am not arguing that global warming is the same as eugenics. But the similarities are not superficial. And I do claim that open and frank discussion of the data, and of the issues, is being suppressed. Leading scientific journals have taken strong editorial positions of the side of global warming, which, I argue, they have no business doing. Under the circumstances, any scientist who has doubts understands clearly that they will be wise to mute their expression.
One proof of this suppression is the fact that so many of the outspoken critics of global warming are retired professors. These individuals are not longer seeking grants, and no longer have to face colleagues whose grant applications and career advancement may be jeopardized by their criticisms.
In science, the old men are usually wrong. But in politics, the old men are wise, counsel caution, and in the end are often right.
The past history of human belief is a cautionary tale. We have killed thousands of our fellow human beings because we believed they had signed a contract with the devil, and had become witches. We still kill more than a thousand people each year for witchcraft. In my view, there is only one hope for humankind to emerge from what Carl Sagan called “the demon-haunted world” of our past. That hope is science.
But as Alston Chase put it, “when the search for truth is confused with political advocacy, the pursuit of knowledge is reduced to the quest for power.”
That is the danger we now face. And this is why the intermixing of science and politics is a bad combination, with a bad history. We must remember the history, and be certain that what we present to the world as knowledge is disinterested and honest.

Conclusion
I have attempted to show that between 1905 and 1935, both internal and external factors were important in producing and influencing geneticists' attitudes toward the eugenics movement. Internal factors operated in several ways during this period. In the first decade of the century, discoveries within genetics supplied geneticists a mode of expression to evoke their already existing social concern by providing a new vocabulary with which to present eugenic proposals. In addition, because these findings were relatively easy to explain to the layman, it became an easy matter for geneticists to popularize eugenics. After 1915, by suggesting the complexity of inheritance, other developments within genetics helped dim their initial enthusiasm for the movement. During this period, factors external to the science of genetics also were important. By producing a general interest in social affairs among many geneticists, the intellectual and social milieu of the late 1800's lay the foundations for their early participation in the eugenics movement. In the 1920's and 1930's the subjection of genetic theory to support preconceived social and political doctrines prompted them to renounce the movement publicly.
While both internal and external factors operated on geneticists, the lesson of this study is that external factors were more important in influencing their attitudes toward the movement than internal factors. At the turn of the century, geneticists inherited from Social Darwinism a general interest in applying biological principles to the analysis of social problems; discoveries within genetics mainly provided a convenient and persuasive terminology with which to express their interest. Later, both internal and external factors caused their enthusiasm for the movement to wane, but their public renunciation of it was caused primarily by external factors alone.
The importance of external factors is seen to be even greater by considering the model I suggested to explain the development of social responsibility in modern form among scientists. According to this model, social responsibility results after a crisis in the social uses of a given science—as a response to external factors. This model appears to account satisfactorily for the emergence of geneticists' sense of social responsibility: alarmed by eugenicists' frequent endorsement of Nazi “eugenic” programs, many geneticists claimed it was their duty to explain the facts of their science to the public so that the layman could see for himself the scientific errors of racism. Geneticists were now presenting the layman the facts, though not necessarily interpreting the facts for him. This same pattern—the emergence of modern social responsibility after an externally induced crisis-appears to be present in the other examples that I gave.
The ironies revealed by this study are many. First, it is ironic that principles of genetics created feelings of both pessimism and optimism among many geneticists. Early developments in genetics-Mendel's laws, the concept of unit inheritance, and Weismann's theory-supplemented Social Darwinism in creating an atmosphere of pessimism among many geneticists by posing the grim assumption that human defects are hereditarily determined and incapable of medical cure. In recognizing the importance of heredity in development, many geneticists for a while were overly pessimistic in their forecasts of the evolutionary future of the human race. These same three genetic developments, however, by suggesting the feasibility of a eugenics program, of controlling reproduction to eliminate defective genes from the population, provided a remedy to the “problem” they had helped …

The history of fascist ideology is long and it draws on many sources. Fascists took inspiration from sources as ancient as the Spartans for their focus on racial purity and their emphasis on rule by an élite minority. Researchers have also seen links between fascism and the ideals of Plato, though there are key differences between the two. Italian Fascism styled itself as the ideological successor to Ancient Rome, particularly the Roman Empire. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's view on the absolute authority of the state also strongly influenced fascist thinking. The 1789 French Revolution was a major influence insofar as the Nazis saw themselves as fighting back against many of the ideas which it brought to prominence, especially liberalism, liberal democracy and racial equality, whereas on the other hand, fascism drew heavily on the revolutionary ideal of nationalism. The prejudice of a "high and noble" Aryan culture as opposed to a "parasitic" Semitic culture was core to Nazi racial views, while other early forms of fascism concerned themselves with non-racialized conceptions of their respective nations.

Since the appearance of COVID-19 last year, we have been in a mad rush to develop a vaccine (forgoing typical safety trials) for a virus that turns out to have a 99.7% recovery rate. Why?
The World Health Organization warns that even after being vaccinated we will still need to wear masks. And, by the way, the vaccine may not prevent the further spread of the virus. Ok wait a minute, but we are believed vaccines do so because thats the whole point of a vaccine?

A vaccine, that "corporate media" has told us has recorded 50 times the adverse reactions of the seasonal influenza vaccine. A virus that, "corporate media" has told us, seems to have mutated twice already. This makes no sense at all!
With the preliminary adverse events being reported, by independent media, the vaccine has turn out to be more dangerous than the virus itself. And why aren't we told that Bill Gates is a "VACCINE INVESTOR" and NOT the "corporate media" narrative that he's a philanthropist who just loves humanity?

He is not an immunologist or even an elected official, yet for some reason, we look to him when setting public health policies. Bill Gates's lengthy track record with mass vaccination campaigns in other countries has been disastrous, yet we still take his advice. Why!?
Did you know that there are lawmakers in the Italian government that believe Gates should be investigated for crimes against humanity and think his vaccination campaign is used as a depopulation program? Many believe that Gates is actually part of an eugenics movement disguised as healthcare for underdeveloped countries. It is no secret that his family has ties with the eugenics movement of the 20th century. In fact, his father was very involved with Planned Parenthood, an organization which many believe is nothing more than an eugenics program.
The founder of Planned Parenthood, Margeret Sanger was a known casteist steeped in eugenics. Maybe this why almost 80% of all Planned Parenthood facilities are located within walking distance to the African American and Latino communities. If you do a little research on Margeret Sanger and Bill Gates Senior (don't use Google, use Ecosia) you will find much more on this topic.
Did you know that the Kenyan Catholic Doctors Association found anti-fertility agents in WHO vaccines administered in Africa? They took samples from all over the country and had them independently tested. Every one of the samples came back positive for the anti-fertility agent. This may seem unbelievable but it's not like we haven't used sterilization in the past.
